This depends. Permits are not needed if the dumpster will rest on your own property. If you fall under the jurisdiction of an HOA, consult them first just in case you need special permission for a visible dumpster.
Street placements are not generally allowed in the San Jose area, though there may be some rare exceptions. Be sure to reach out to the City of San Jose, CA for more specific permit regulation information.

Certain dangerous or hazardous materials, as well as certain larger items, cannot ever be put into a roll off dumpster. Please make sure you don’t throw away any of these strictly prohibited items:
Mattresses, box springs, and furniture are allowed for disposal. However, each will cost an extra per piece. Also, any furniture must be completely broken down or it will not be accepted.

Dumpster rentals are NOT ALLOWED for street placement in San Jose. This is determined by local zoning ordinances and the protocols of our haulers. As much as we strive to be flexible for our customers, we cannot disregard local law.
Your dumpster may need to be placed on your personal property. There may be cases where special permits are required as well. Be sure to contact your local authorities for clarification. We will also assist with this process in any way we can.
We CANNOT arrange dumpster deliveries for Saturday. This is based on the zoning ordinances of San Jose and the schedules of our haulers. Contact your local authorities for any clarification you may need.
Our usual rental period is 14 days (two weeks). San Jose allows you to utilize your dumpster rental for the entire 14-day period.
You don’t have to keep your rental for the entire 14-day rental period, however. If you need to return your dumpster early, have no fear! Give us a call and we will have our hauler swing by for an early pickup with no extra charge.
If you need to hang onto your rental for longer than the two week period, a simple fee of $15 per extra day will be added to the final price.
Most landscaping waste is ALLOWED in your dumpster. The only items NOT ALLOWED for disposal is SOD (top ground soil with grass still attached) and TREATED WOOD. This is based on the protocols of our haulers and the local landfills.
If any of the two items mentioned are left in your rental dumpster, the load will likely be rejected for pickup by our hauler. If a delivery or pickup is rejected by our hauler, a trip fee will be added to the final rental price.
Mattresses and other furniture are ALLOWED for disposal in your dumpster, yet only under certain conditions. Mattresses and furniture can only be disposed of in your dumpster with the addition of an $85 fee per item. Furniture must also be completely broken down or it will not be accepted for hauling.
You can also break down your mattress before you put it in the dumpster to save space or find an alternative to dispose of mattresses.
