If you only have a small amount of waste, a junk hauler will pick it up at the curb. A junk hauler is a good choice for getting rid of old appliances that are not allowed in the landfill.

The price of a dumpster is based on the size you need, the weight of the material you are disposing of, the length of time you need your dumpster, and your location. We offer a flat rate that includes all taxes and local landfill fees for a standard two-week rental period.
Keeping your dumpster longer or filling it beyond the weight limit may lead to additional charges. Your dumpster is weighed when it enters the landfill and again when it leaves. The difference is how the weight of your trash is determined. Consulting with our friendly team can keep you from going over the

Los Angeles issues an encroachment permit for any dumpster that sits on public property. You are responsible for obtaining these permits yourself from the city government. They tend to cost $75-$120. It is issued for a period of seven days but can be renewed if necessary.
A dumpster for your personal use, not business use, can be placed in your private property, like a driveway, without obtaining a permit. For more information, please contact the City of Los Angeles Permitting Department, at 311 or 213-473-3231. The offices are located at 200 N. Spring Street. If your neighborhood is governed by an HOA, different rules may apply. Be sure to check the covenants.
Hazardous waste is prohibited in your dumpster and in California landfills. Some examples of hazardous materials are:

Please do not load your dumpster above the fill line. If you do, the driver will not be allowed to transport it for safety reasons. Be mindful of the weight of your material, because a dumpster that is only partly full can exceed the weight limit if the debris is heavy. Common types of heavy material are asphalt shingles, concrete, cement, and dirt.
There are several things to consider when renting a construction dumpster. You will need to be careful of the weight. Material such as concrete, asphalt, and bricks can weigh about 1 ton per 10 yards. Safety regulations prevent us from transporting dumpsters weighing over 10 tons. You should also be aware that some of your construction material is recyclable. If you wish to collect it for recycling, it should be considered a specialty load. That means a dumpster containing concrete cannot contain any other material or debris. The same is true for asphalt and bricks.
While some dumpsters weigh about as much as a car when filled, larger sizes may be heavy enough to damage a standard driveway. You can prevent your driveway from being scratched by putting down a barrier of plywood and lumber. You’ll need a standard sheet of ¾-inch plywood and a piece of two-by-four lumber that measures 8 ft. long to place under the wheels and feet of the dumpster. If you are renting a dumpster for heavy material such as concrete, you may apply for a permit to have your dumpster placed on the street.
Mattresses and box springs can be allowed for disposal ONLY in a high-side container. No low-wall bins can take mattresses. If you're interested, you can consult our blog on breaking down mattresses DIY style.
Tires cannot just be thrown in the trash; they need to be recycled. You can contact Los Angeles Sanitation (LASAN) at 800-773-2489 to arrange for the disposal of your tires.
