Best Choice in the Boise Area for Junk Removal

There are upsides to renting a dumpster for your jobsite or your home. Compared to a junk hauling service, a dumpster rental can give you more flexibility and save you money.

Instead of having to wait for a scheduled collection from a junk removal service, you can use your dumpster throughout your project, which gives you the freedom to work in the evenings or on weekends. Take the reins on your project at choose your own schedule with a dumpster rental.

However, a junk hauler could be utilized in some circumstances. For example, if you have fridges or air conditioners, get a hauler to get it out for you. If you don’t want to worry about hauling away heavy furniture or appliances by yourself, consider calling a collection service.

DUMPSTER RENTAL RESOURCES

Renting a roll off for your home projects

Is a Dumpster Rental Permit Required in the Boise Area?

As a general rule, permits are inexpensive. However, you may not even need one. In some cases, you can place a dumpster in your driveway or on your property without getting a permit. Before you plan to store the rental container on your property, check to make sure your neighborhood association or HOA rules allow it.

If the container is in the way of public property, you're going to need a ROW (right of way) permit. The City of Boise may issue you a temporary-use permit. Check out the link below, or call the city at 208-608-7000.

What Should Not Go Into a Roll Off Dumpster Rental?

Landfills are regulated by state and local governments and must follow federal EPA regulations. Prohibited items include:

Fortunately, it’s easy to dispose of these materials in Boise and Ada County. You can’t toss them in your dumpster, but you can drop them off at designated sites.

There are two ways to dispose of batteries. Alkaline batteries can go in a dumpster. For all other types of batteries, you can recycle them by placing them in a Household Battery Collection Bag and dropping them off at the proper location.

Call Boise Public Works at 208-384-3901 if you have questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Should I Do With Hazardous Waste?

Hazardous waste includes any item that is flammable, combustible, explosive, corrosive, reactive, or toxic. In Idaho, Ada County has a free hazardous waste disposal program that allows residents to leave their hazardous materials at the landfill or at one of the mobile collection sites. There is no charge, and items are accepted on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Household Hazardous Waste program is a recycling program. Many of the materials brought to the landfill are still usable. You can go to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility to pick up some of the chemicals you can make use of (at no charge).

You can also bring old or broken television sets and computer monitors to the landfill at no charge.

If you have material containing asbestos, please use the links below to follow the landfill’s procedure. A 24-hour notice is required, and you can call 208-577-4725 for more information or to make an appointment.

What Do I Do With Old Shingles After I Replace My Roof?

If you are replacing your roof and plan to dispose of your old asphalt shingles, Discount Dumpster’s team can figure out the square footage of your roof by using aerial photos. We’ll use this information to recommend the right dumpster size, so make sure to tell us if your roof has more than a single layer of shingles. Keep in mind that asphalt shingles are recyclable, so a container ordered for that purpose should not contain any other type of waste material.

What If It Rains or Snows? Will the Water Add Excess Weight?

Some dumpsters have holes in the bottom to allow for water to run off, and all dumpsters have moveable doors that are not flush and do not create a tight seal. So some of the water will drain when the dumpster is loaded at the time of collection. Any remaining water will slightly increase the weight, but the overweight cost per gallon of water is only about 28 cents. Be aware that the contents of your roll off will absorb some of the water, thereby increasing the weight of mattresses and some furniture. It would be wise to purchase a tarp to cover your container if the weather is unpredictable. When the dumpster is picked up, you can keep the tarp to cover other things.

Will a Roll Off Dumpster Damage My Driveway?

The dumpster weighs about as much as a car or truck and has wheels, so it’s not likely that a roll off bin will damage your driveway. However, a heavy-duty dumpster filled with 10 tons of concrete could crack a driveway or leave scratches. If you are disposing of that amount of weight, you can put plywood down before the container is delivered to avoid those scratches.

What Is a “Clean Load?”

Basically, a clean load is a dumpster filled with the same type of recyclable material, such as concrete or asphalt from a driveway. Those substances go to a recycling plant where the material is ground up and reused. Keep in mind that you cannot throw any other items in the same dumpster as recyclable material.

What About Disposing of Pressure-Treated Lumber?

Your backyard may contain items made with what is commonly referred to as pressure-treated lumber. This type of lumber was commonly used in items such as picnic tables, decking material, and playsets built before 2004. If you have any of these older items, they are likely treated with CCA (chromium, copper, and arsenic), which is toxic and can leach into ground water. Some landfills will accept this type of lumber. You should consult your local landfill before putting it in your dumpster.
Protecting the health of its citizens and the environment is a core value of Ada County. The county provides residents with several hazardous waste disposal options. Contact county officials or Discount Dumpster for information on safely throwing away pressure-treated lumber or other hazardous materials
