When your rental dumpster has to go onto the street in front of or near your property, you may need a Street Occupancy Permit from the City of Boston Public Works Department. This will allow you to restrict access to a section of a street in Boston for a certain amount of time. You must apply online for this type of permit.
After receiving the permit, you must inform your neighbors of the street blockage with flyers that will be provided to you. At then end of the job, you are required to clean up any debris left behind and remove all notification flyers. You should also check with your homeowners’ association for any restrictions on rental dumpsters in your neighborhood.
Not everything is allowed in your rental dumpster container. Landfills prohibit some items as they are hazardous, flammable, or contaminated.

This is unsafe and illegal, as debris can escape from the dumpster container and impact other drivers on the road. If your waste and debris will not fully fit into your dumpster container, give us a call to discuss your options. We can offer a dump and replace service, giving you another container to complete your job. Charges for a second dumpster would apply. You can also choose to remove the excess debris and dispose or recycle it in another manner.
Water can enter your roll off dumpster container when it rains or snows. Not only can water accumulate in the bottom of the dumpster container. It can also soak into the material in the dumpster. If you are expecting heavy rain or snow, you can cover your dumpster with a tarp to reduce the amount of water entering the dumpster. Much of the water weight will be drained off when the dumpster is tipped and loaded onto the hauling truck. If you have items saturated with water in the container, you may want to remove them and allow them to dry. Any water weight will be included in the weight allowance for your dumpster.
