When you have a big cleanup, home remodel, or construction job to do, you can’t beat the convenience of a rental dumpster delivered to your home or job site. With a dumpster roll off container at your site, you have round-the-clock access as you work. When you have lots of waste, you’ll save money over a junk hauler or even taking trash to the dump yourself with our low-cost dumpster rentals.

When renting a dumpster you should always look for transparent pricing. Companies that do not offer transparent prices usually have something to hide. Be vigilant and always be willing to ask how dumpster rentals are priced.

How Are Dumpster Rental Prices Determined?

Renting a dumpster from Discount Dumpster is straightforward and affordable. When you call for your free quote, you get a guaranteed low rate for each dumpster size. We carry a large inventory of all dumpster sizes from 10 to 40 yards, ready for fast delivery to your home or job site.

Your clear quote will start with our flat rate. This includes all rental charges, landfill disposal fees, environmental fees, taxes, and delivery and pickup of your dumpster container. There is a standard rental period of 7 to 14 days for your rental dumpster, but this can be extended for an additional charge if you need more time to complete your project.

Additional factors that can affect the price of your dumpster rental include your delivery location, seasonal availability, type of debris, and any permitting requirements. We work hard to keep our costs down and pass along the savings to our customers.

Dumpster Rental Pricing and Regional Variation

Dumpster rental prices can vary across regions due to several factors. The most important considerations are the size of the dumpster and the length of the rental period. The type of debris, especially if it is particularly heavy, is also a key determinant of the price of a rental dumpster.

1.     Size of the Dumpster Container

Each dumpster in our inventory, from our compact 10-yard dumpster to our massive 40-yard roll offs, starts with a flat rate for that particular size. Sizes and their respective pricing will always vary by region. A 10-yard dumpster in Topeka will have a different cost than say a 10-yard dumpster in Los Angeles.

2.     Length of Rental Period

Discount Dumpster's flat rate includes a standard rental period of up to 2 weeks. In most cases, this is plenty of time to complete your project cleanup. However, we know not all jobs are the same. Some may take extra time, or you may encounter a delay due to weather, workflow issues, or supply problems.

If you need to extend your rental period, we can add on extra days to your original rental period. This additional time is charged at a prorated rate.

If we are unable to pick up your dumpster on the scheduled day, there will be an additional charge added. This sometimes occurs due to other vehicles blocking the container, an improperly loaded dumpster, or debris or fencing that does not allow us access to the dumpster container. To avoid this fee, be sure to load the dumpster correctly and remove any access obstacles before the scheduled pickup day.

3.     Seasonal Availability

Demand for rental dumpsters can fluctuate across seasons. There is an increase in demand for our largest roll offs due to construction activity during the warmer months. Many homeowners begin projects in the spring and summer months, increasing the demand for our smaller dumpsters.

Adverse weather events or natural disasters, such as tornadoes, flooding, hurricanes, and earthquakes can also increase demand, leading to higher prices or reduced inventory. To ensure you get the best rate, reserve your dumpster in advance, well before you begin your actual cleanup work. This will lock in a lower rate and save you money.

4.     Delivery Location

Dumpster rental pricing is set according to delivery location. Varying fuel costs and drive times can increase or decrease the cost of your dumpster rental. Some regions, such as specific areas along the West Coast and in environmentally protected areas, have additional regulatory costs added onto the landfill disposal charges. These extra costs cover environmental taxes, hazardous material handling fees, and mandatory recycling costs.

Prices also tend to be higher in urban areas with high demand due to commercial construction compared to rural or suburban locations. Suburban and rural rates tend to be lower. However, if you live a great distance from a city center, there could be a higher rate due to the extra mileage needed for delivery. When you call to order your dumpster, we’ll ask your location to get you the appropriate rate for your region and specific location.

5.     Type of Waste and Debris

There are some items that are prohibited by local, state, and federal laws in our landfills. If your waste load contains these items, the dumpster could be refused at the landfill. There could be a charge if any items must be removed from the dumpster before disposal. Examples of these types of items include automotive fluids, liquid paint, sealed drums, toxic chemicals, asbestos, and infectious medical waste.

Biohazardous waste may be charged an additional environmental cleanup fee. This varies by locale and is assessed on specific type of debris. In addition, some landfills are restricted and only accept certain types of waste, such as inert material, landscaping and yard waste, or non-household construction debris. We recommend look at our waste disposal guide for a more detailed view of how to dispose of specific types of material.

6.     Weight Allowance

Each size dumpster has a specific weight allowance. Our hauling truck is weighed at the landfill upon entering and exiting. The difference in weight is the actual weight of the waste load. If this exceeds the weight limit, there will be an overage charge assessed.

A dumpster that is grossly overweight could be rejected at the landfill. In this case, there would be a need for an additional dumpster, along with unloading and reloading work. This also would result in an additional fee.

Very heavy material, such as asphalt roofing shingles, concrete, and gravel can easily cause the dumpster to exceed the weight allowance. If you have heavy inert material to discard, let us know. We have money-saving options for your heavy debris disposal.

To avoid incurring a weight overage fee, do not fill your dumpster above the top rail or fill line. Compacted trash is very heavy, so do not compact your waste as you load it. Use a smaller dumpster size or a dedicated inert container for heavy material like concrete or landscaping stone. Finally, cover your dumpster in inclement weather, as excess water in the container is heavy and will add to the overall container weight.

7.     Permitting Fees

Some municipalities or counties may have permitting requirements in place for rental dumpsters. In most cases, if the dumpster container fits entirely onto your private property, there is typically no need to pull a permit. This includes driveway and side-lot placement. However, if the dumpster encroaches onto a public right-of-way, such as a street, you may be subject to permitting requirements.

Dumpster rental permits can be obtained from your local city or county authorities. The cost of a temporary dumpster permit can range from $10 up to $125 on average. If you live in a location that requires permits for all temporary dumpsters regardless of placement, this cost will often be included in your flat rate.

There may also be restrictions on where your dumpster can be placed and how long it can remain on site. When you call to order your dumpster, we’ll discuss your preferred delivery location at your home or worksite.

If a permit is necessary, we will direct you to the appropriate government agency and assist you with the permit application. We help make the whole process fast and easy. Any necessary permit must be in place on or before your scheduled delivery date.

How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Dumpster?

On average, a dumpster will cost you between $285 and $900 for a 14-day rental. The final cost depends on the size, length of the rental period, type of debris, delivery location, and regional and seasonal considerations.

These are national average rental costs for each size dumpster in our inventory:

10 cubic yards – $295 - $400

15 cubic yards - $350 - $450

20 cubic yards - $400 - $600

30 cubic yards - $500 - $700

40 cubic yards - $600 - $850

We commonly offer discounts for short and long-term rentals, active-duty military personnel and veterans, first responders, seniors, and other groups in our community. Be sure to ask about any available discounts when you call to order your dumpster.

We’re also happy to price match any offers from other dumpster rental companies in the region. Our flat-rate pricing model has proven superior to our competitors, who use variable-rate pricing.

Flat-Rate vs. Variable-Rate Dumpster Pricing

What's the difference between flat-rate and variable rate dumpster rental pricing models?

Flat-rate Pricing

Flat-rate pricing is basically a bundle. All costs associated with renting the dumpster are included in one price.

Costs such as pickup, delivery, taxes, and local fees are all covered under the flat-rate price. This means customers don't need to worry about all the costs and fees, as well as saving money overall. The flat rate pricing model is how Discount Dumpster saves customers $50 on average compared to the competition.

Variable Pricing

Variable-rate pricing essentially charges the customer for every cost and aspect of the rental. This means the customer pays for the dumpster, plus a rental period, taxes, service fees, transportation, and more. There could also be hidden fees attached that aren't revealed until the end of the rental.

Below is an example of what a flat-rate dumpster rental invoice looks like compared to a variable-rate one:
